BBW International Poetry Competition 2021 Rules

Rules

1. Entry to the competition is open to any one who identifies as black throughout the world.

2. Each entrant can submit unlimited amounts of poems, the entry fee is £10 per poem.

3. Each entry must be a poem of no more than 50 lines, on the theme of Black IdentityEntrants are encouraged to interpret these themes with imagination.

4. Each entry must have a title. Titles and blank lines between stanzas are not included in the line count.

5. Entries that do not subscribe to the competition theme will not be considered.

6. All entries must be submitted through the online application form on the  website (www.blackbritishwriters.co.uk).

7. No postal entries will be accepted, and we regret that we are unable to provide confirmation that entries have been received.

8. By entering the competition, entrants agree to abide by these rules.

9. Judges will be appointed by Black British Writers. Their decision will be final, and no appeals will be considered. Black British Writers will not enter into any correspondence about or comment on individual entries.

10. Black British Writers reserves the right to amend these rules if it is deemed necessary to do so.

11. Entries must be submitted under the entrant’s real name.

12. Black British Writers cannot accept responsibility for any damage, loss, injury or disappointment suffered by any entrant.

13. The competition and rules are governed by English law and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.

14. In accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998, entrants’ details will be held on a secure database by Black British Writers and will not be released to any third party without entrants’ explicit and written consent.

15. Poems must be entirely the original work of the entrant. Entries must never have been published, self-published, published on any website or broadcast in any form nor currently entered in any other competition before 10th December 2020. The poem must not have won a prize in any previous competition.

16. The winners will be notified by 14th  March 2021.

17. The prize for the winner will be 1st prize £250, 2nd Prize £150, 3rd Prize £50. (Please note that currency will be converted for non-British winners) All short and Long-listed entrants will feature in a published anthology of poems.

18. The copyright of the winning, short-listed and long-listed  poems remains with the authors. However, the winning, short-listed and long-listed poets, by entering the competition, grant Black British Writers the right to publish in print and/or online and/or broadcast their poems for an indefinite period. Use of the poems elsewhere is subject to permission from Black British Writers for a period of 36 months.

19. Details of the winners will be posted on the Black British Writers website and social media channels.

20. The competition closes on 12th March 2021 at 11.59pm GMT, and any entries received after this date will be rejected.

21. Entrants into the Competition shall be deemed to have accepted these Terms and Conditions.

22. Please do not enter after the deadline as your entry won’t count but you may still be charged.
